A Brief History
Shaun started in the construction industry as an apprentice carpenter with a local company, Thomas Broads, when he was 16. After completing his City and Guilds in 1984 he continued to learn from those around him to broaden his knowledge and skills beyond just carpentry. He was soon able to undertake most building services, from foundations to loft conversions.
Federation of Master Builders
Since 2007 we have been following The Federation of Master Builders Declaration of Policy, which states:
'To promote exellence in the construction of buildings and just and honourable practice in the conduct of business and to suppress malpractice.'
With this in mind we were entered into the Master Builder of The Year in 2008 for our work on a new after school building on the Malvern Hills.
This project was situated on a difficult site and was a particular challenge for all involved. It was originally a coal shed and out house which was to be converted into a children's after school club building. The access road to the site was too steep and narrow for deliveries close to site and close proximity to adjacent buildings made it an exceptionally cramped site.
For this reason the Malvern Hills Conservators granted us permission to construct a temporary platform as a site compound on the side of the hill which had to be reinstated post contract.
It was completed on time and on budget and was submitted in 2008 for the Master Builder of the Year competition.Unfortunately we did not win, however the judges did award us a certificate of merit due to the complex nature of the site and the "standard of the works achieved".
